Benefits of Health Coaching for Business

In today’s fast-paced and competitive business environment, many employees are facing immense pressure to keep up with the demands of their jobs. While this pressure can lead to increased productivity in the short term, it can also have a detrimental effect on personal health, life expectancy, employee engagement, and ultimately, return on investment (ROI) for businesses.

One of the most significant effects of today’s business environment is increased stress levels among employees. The constant pressure to meet deadlines, exceed targets, and stay ahead of the competition can take a toll on employees’ mental and physical health. Chronic stress can lead to a range of health problems, including anxiety, depression, heart disease, and diabetes. Over time, this can result in reduced life expectancy and increased healthcare costs for both employees and businesses.

In addition to the negative impact on personal health, today’s business environment can also lead to decreased employee engagement. When employees feel overwhelmed and stressed, they are less likely to be engaged in their work and more likely to experience burnout. This can lead to decreased productivity, higher rates of absenteeism, and increased turnover rates, all of which can have a negative impact on a business’s ROI.

Furthermore, the competitive nature of today’s business environment can lead to a “workaholic” culture, where employees feel the need to work long hours and sacrifice their personal lives in order to succeed. This can result in a lack of work-life balance, which can have a negative impact on personal relationships, mental health, and overall well-being. In turn, this can lead to decreased productivity and engagement, as employees struggle to balance their personal and professional responsibilities.

So, what can businesses do to mitigate these negative effects and improve their ROI? One solution is to invest in employee wellness programs, which can help employees manage stress, adopt healthy habits, and maintain a better work-life balance. These programs can include a range of services, such as counselling, mindfulness training, fitness classes, and nutrition coaching.

By prioritizing employee well-being, businesses can create a more engaged and productive workforce, while also reducing healthcare costs and turnover rates. In fact, research has shown that companies that invest in employee wellness programs can see a return on investment of up to R45 for every R10 spent.

In conclusion, while today’s fast-paced and competitive business environment can lead to increased productivity in the short term, it can also have a negative impact on personal health, life expectancy, employee engagement, and ROI for businesses. By investing in employee wellness programs and prioritizing work-life balance, businesses can create a more sustainable and profitable work environment for all.

Why health coaching is essential

for any entrepreneur. (a story)

Once upon a time, there was a successful businessman named Jack. Jack had it all – a beautiful family, a thriving business, and a luxurious lifestyle. He worked hard, played hard, and never gave much thought to his health. After all, he felt fine and didn’t have any major health issues.

But one day, everything changed. Jack woke up with a throbbing headache and felt dizzy and nauseous. He tried to shake it off and go about his day, but he could barely make it through the morning. He went to the doctor and was shocked to learn that he had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and was at risk for a heart attack.

Jack was scared and didn’t know where to turn. He realized that he had neglected his health for too long, and now he was paying the price. He didn’t want to lose everything he had worked so hard for, including his family and his business.

That’s when he decided to hire a health coach. His coach, Sarah, helped him create a customized plan to improve his health and reduce his risk for heart disease. She taught him how to eat a healthy diet, incorporate exercise into his routine, manage stress, and get enough sleep.

At first, it wasn’t easy for Jack to make these changes. He had to break old habits and create new ones, and he had to be patient as his body adjusted to the new lifestyle. But Sarah was there every step of the way, encouraging him and providing the support he needed to stay on track.

Over time, Jack began to feel better than he had in years. His energy levels soared, his headaches disappeared, and he slept better than ever before. He also noticed that he was more productive at work and had more quality time to spend with his family.

Thanks to his health coach, Jack realized that his health was his biggest asset. Without it, he wouldn’t be able to enjoy all the things that he valued most in life. He learned that investing in his health was the best investment he could make, and he was grateful to have someone like Sarah to guide him along the way.

The moral of the story? Your health is your greatest asset, and investing in a health coach is essential for optimal health and performance. Whether you’re a busy professional, an athlete, or just someone who wants to live a healthier life, a health coach can help you achieve your goals and live your best life. Don’t wait until it’s too late – start investing in your health today!

14 Engagement Rx Methodologies, Principles and Effects

    Methodologies/Principles

    Effects

    Cognitive Behavioural Training

Disarm cognitive distortions and retrain the brain to operate with more helpful thought patterns

    Theory of Planned Behaviour

Encompassed around three core constructs; attitude towards the behaviour (behavioural beliefs and evaluation of behavioural outcomes), subjective norms (normative beliefs and perceived power). The emphasis is that these three form someone’s intention to perform a behaviour.

    Social Cognitive Theory

The three buckets of factors that make up the social cognitive theory include behavioural (skills, practice, self-efficacy), environmental (social norms, access in the community, influence on others) and cognitive (knowledge, expectations, attitudes).

    Model of Managing Complex Change

Recognized that to minimize barriers to change there needs to be a vision, skills, incentives, resources and action plan for success.

    Motivational Interviewing

Approach that is participant-centered and used for eliciting behaviour change by helping them to explore and resolve ambivalence.

    Transtheoretical Model/Stage of Change

Uses stages of change to intergrate processes and principles of change in order to meet participants where they are gauging how ready they are to change.

    Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Encourages participants to embrance their thoughts and feeling rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them.

14 Engagement Rx Methodologies, Principles and Effects

    Methodologies/Principles

    Effects

    Self Determination Theory

Understands that a participant has three basic needs; competence (need to be effective in dealing with environment), autonomy (need to control the course of their lives) and relatedness (need to have a close, affectionate relationship with others).

    Mindfulness

Maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens.

    Positive Psychology

Asks how we can cultivate human strengths such as resilience, joy and meaning to enable participants to thrive.

    Fogg Behavioural Model

Where three elements converge for behaviour change to occur motivation, ability and prompt. This emphasizes small actions to get to bigger steps

    Goal Theory

A participant’s behaviour is directed towards goals that are mastery (reflect a desire to gain knowledge and skills) and performance (reflects a desire to look competent in others’ eyes).

    Health Believe Model

Conveys the relationship between modifying factors (such as age, ethnicity, personality, SES) and beliefs (perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers and self-efficacy) in conjunction with cues to action (such as education, reminders) to create a behaviour.

    Diffusion of Innovation Theory

Understanding how, why, and the rate of which new programs, products and services are adopted by a population. When promoting an innovation, there are different strategies used to appeal to the different adopter categories.
